Paratransit Rape Trial

By dsobsey

28 November 2008 – Edmonton, AB, Canada According to the Edmonton Journal,  Lyes Kiared, an Edmonton paratransit driver, alleged to have rape of a 40-year-old female passenger who has a physical and intellectual disability, was on trial this week. The alleged victim testified that he visited her apartment and raped her, three days after he met her when she was a passenger on his vehicle. In addition to her statement, the prosecution presented evidence about her injuries and the finding of Kiared’s semen on the woman’s sofa.

In his defense. Kiared took the stand. He indicated that he had visited her condo but that no sexual activity took place. Rather he claimed that he had taken a container with him with a semen sample that he was going to take to a hospital laboratory. According to Kiared, the top came off the container while he was visiting and the semen spilled on the sofa:

“I tried to close it but it spilled over my hand,” he said. “I tried to shake it off. It went there on the pillows.”

“I swear on the Koran. There was no contact at all.”

A verdict is expected on December 17th.
