Hamilton Torture Case: Part 2

by

19 February 2009 – Hamilton, ON, Canada Today’s Toronto Star reports yesterday’s brief court appearances of the three adults charged in the torturing a 22-year-old man, described as “mentally disabled” and “vulnerable,” who was held captive and brutally abused for several weeks.

Dakota Thompson, 20, Stanley Brown, 30, Nathaniel Jug, 22, were charged with forcible confinement, aggravated assault, aggravated sexual assault, threatening death and robbery. Thompson was described as fidgeting during her appaearnce, and Brown was described as weeping and gagging during his appearance, while Jug was described as calm. The woman and two men are being held pending  a later bail hearing. A 17-year-old boy has also been arrested in the case.

Some items that were used in the torture including martial arts weapons were seized as evidence.

According to the Toronto Star:

The attacks were primarily sadistic, Beech said. “It would be fair to say it was a power trip.”

Police allege the “very trusting” man was lured to the Corktown apartment and held captive for weeks. He was burned, beaten with fists and martial arts-style weapons and sexually assaulted.

Officers found him lying prone in a back room with a fractured skull, burns and bruises all over his body and blood poisoning.

Police have refused to reveal what caused extreme “toxification” of his blood.

Few details have been released regarding the victim, who was said to have lived alone on “disability assistance” and had not been reported missing. Although he was reported to be near death when discovered by police investigating a noise complaint, he is now reported to be recovering quickly in hospital.

The Globe & Mail reports that the attic apartment where the victim was held captive was filthy:

Insects cover the walls and a horrible stench fills the air inside the Hamilton apartment where for more than three weeks a 22-year-old man, described by police as trusting and vulnerable, was held captive, beaten, burned and sexually abused.

The man was said to be near death when a chance discovery by police led to his rescue Sunday. He had allegedly been lured to this third-floor apartment in Hamilton’s Corktown neighbourhood in January.

The apartment was shared by three people, 30-year-old Stanley Brown, his 20-year old girlfriend Dakota Thompson, and 22-year-old Nathaniel Jug. It’s not known whether they knew the victim.

He was allegedly brought there, tied up and held against his will while he was robbed and abused. The only apparent motive, according to Hamilton police Superintendent Bill Stewart, was sadism.
