15 March 2009 – Niskayuna, NY, USA Thirteen-year-old Jonathan Carey died on February 15, 2007 in a van with two OD Heck Developmental Center employees and another resident of the Center. Edwin Tirado, who used improper restraint hold that asphyxiated Jonathan while the other employee got out to use the ATM machine was convicted of second degree manslaughter and sentenced to 5 to 15 years for the death of the autistic adolescent, so legally we know who is responsible, but Tirado is not the only one who shares in the long list of abuses and errors that began long before Jonathan’s death and added insult to injury after he died. March 12, 200911 March 2009 – Atwater, CA, USA KCRA 3 reports that Juan Manuel Martinez, a 58-year-old college counselor was arrested at Delhi High School on allegations of of lewd and lascivious acts with a minor and continuous sexual abuse of a child. The alleged victim is a 13-year-old girl with disabilities. The report does not indicate the nature of her disabilities.
Killing Robert Young
March 7, 20097 March 2009 – Chattanooga, TN, USA Robert Allen Young was six months old when he was beaten into a vegetative state by his father. He survived but his brain injury resulted in cerebral palsy and a severe intellectual disability. Later while he was under care of his half sister, he was apprehended by the state due to neglect. Autistic Grandson Murdered
March 4, 20092 March 2009 – Chesapeake, VA, USA Police believe that Constance Stepney, 55, gave her grandson Terrell Stepney, 19, a fatal overdose of medicine before ingesting a fatal dose of her own. Terrell Stepney was a student in the 11th Grade at Oscar Smith High School in Chesapeake. (more…)
